Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to either insufficient insulin production by the pancreas or reduced cellular response to insulin. This condition affects the entire body and can lead to serious complications if not properly managed.

There are different types of diabetes, with the main ones being type 1 (of autoimmune origin, usually occurring in young individuals) and type 2 (more often associated with obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and genetic predisposition). Gestational diabetes also occurs during pregnancy and requires close monitoring for both the mother and the fetus.

Symptoms of diabetes may include excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, and increased appetite. In many cases, especially in type 2 diabetes, diagnosis occurs at a later stage, as the disease develops slowly and insidiously.

Diagnosis is based on blood tests, such as fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and the oral glucose tolerance test. Depending on the results and the type of diabetes, a personalized treatment plan is designed, which may include dietary modifications, physical activity, medication, insulin therapy, or insulin pump use in type 1 diabetes patients.

At our clinic, we provide comprehensive and responsible care for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diabetes mellitus. Monitoring is systematic and tailored to each patient’s needs, aiming to regulate blood glucose and prevent complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, eye disorders, and diabetic foot.

Additionally, we offer guidance on nutrition and lifestyle, promoting self-care and active participation in the treatment process. Our care is always compassionate, scientifically grounded, and focused on improving daily life and quality of life.
