Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age, presenting with a variety of symptoms that affect both physical and emotional health. It is characterized by irregular ovulation, elevated androgen levels (male hormones), and the presence of small cysts on the ovaries. Hirsutism—increased hair growth in areas typically seen in men, such as the face, chest, or abdomen—is one of the most common and distressing symptoms of PCOS and is associated with elevated blood androgen levels.

Treatment is always individualized, aiming to relieve symptoms and prevent long-term complications. Depending on each woman’s needs, treatment may include regulating the menstrual cycle with hormonal medications, managing hirsutism and acne, controlling metabolism, dietary or pharmacological interventions for weight loss, and insulin regulation.
