Thyroid
Hashimoto

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing gradual inflammation and destruction of thyroid cells. This process often leads to hypothyroidism, as the gland loses its ability to produce sufficient thyroid hormones.

Symptoms of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis can be mild and develop slowly over time. Common signs include fatigue, weight gain, feeling cold, dry skin, constipation, depression, swelling in the neck (due to thyroid enlargement), hair loss, and memory or concentration difficulties. In some cases, the thyroid may show slight enlargement or structural irregularities.

Diagnosis is based on blood tests that reveal elevated thyroid antibodies, along with measurements of thyroid hormones and TSH. It is often complemented by a thyroid ultrasound, which may show characteristic changes in the gland’s structure.

Treatment focuses on correcting the hypothyroidism caused by the condition, typically through levothyroxine administration, which helps restore normal hormone levels and relieve symptoms. The dosage is individualized, and regular follow-up is required to ensure proper therapy adjustment.

At our clinic, we approach Hashimoto’s thyroiditis with comprehensive care, emphasizing accurate diagnosis, patient education, and support. We provide guidance on lifestyle, nutrition, and stress management to help patients maintain optimal quality of life despite the challenges of the condition.
